Introduction

Hello, my name is Christine Lee Boyle (ECU Student Id: 2033868) and this is my portfolio.

I have completed a Bachelor of Business degree, majoring in Accounting and International Business and a Bachelor of Arts Psycholgy degree at Edith Cowan University. I am currently completing Honours Psychology also at ECU to meet the Australian Psychological Society requirements so that I can onde day register as a Psychologist if I choose to. I have been studying at university since 2003, whilst also participating in various work opportunities based around my mode of study. My employment history includes various industries such as retail, hospitality, travel and administration, as I chose to undertake new opportunities if they became available to me, to assist me in identifying areas of employment I am competent at and enjoy.

I also participate in volunteer programs from time to time if I feel I am in a position to help others or to further my self-development. Previously, I have undertaken academic workshops to assist me in my studies and elective training for work to gain skills and qualifications that have allowed me to perform additional tasks in my employment, such as a RSA and LLC certificate that made it possible for me to provide alcohol to guests after hours while working in a hotel. I am currently a Peer Mentor in ECU's Resistance and Persistence Transition Support Program (RaPTS) and help first year psychology students with their transition into university.

I am interested in pursueing a career in psychology as I find it intriguing that there remains so much in this field that is unconfirmed about how and why individuals act the way they do. Also, I have observed many members of my family, including my mum and dad in how they have been affected by the negative and harmful relationships they had with their parents. This encouraged me to study psychology so that I can one day help other families and protect children from abuse. It is also a career I believe I will find enjoyable and rewarding each day.

The aim of this portfolio is to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competencies I have developed over the nine years I studied at ECU and in my work experience. I expect it will convey who I am as a person, what I hope to gain from my studies and self-development and my goals for the future to develop the necessary skills and qualifications to pursue a career in psychology and child welfare. I believe these are important to improve my employability on both a personal and professional level.

About Me

My aunty, grandmother, uncle and myself. This was the day we re-gained contact after being disconnected for approximately 14 years. It was a special day for me, I found my family on my dad's side and discovered that i inherited all my characteristics from them and that we had very similar personalities.

I am a Perth born Australian citizen with a Scottish background and am the only child of a very small family. I was raised by my single mum, who taught me to be independent and showed me the importance of a good education to ensure a successful and stable career. I live and share most of my life with my fiance and a cat and regularly keep in contact with family and friends, many of whom are located overseas, through my Facebook page. My interests include watching movies and listening to music. I love to dance, particularly salsa dancing and spend many hours attempting to be an amateur chef. I lived the majority of my childhood in the hills of Perth and reguarly try to spend time outdoors in the bush or camping down south in the Margaret River region with my family.

This is my fiance and I dressed and ready to attend our engagement dinner at The Opus Restaurant. We celebrated the night in fine dining and eating culinary delights with our parents and the bridal party. This was a wonderful night for me, not only because it signified the next step in my relationship with my fiance or due to my excitement in getting married, but because it was the moment I began to completely feel like a member of my fiance's family.

I believe as a person I am kind and compassionate, as I often find myself putting others  wants and needs before my own. I am hard-working and reliable and usually hold myself and others to a high standard, as I am adamant about performing tasks well if they need to completed. I also regard my appearance, composure and performance as a strong reflection of who I am as a person and habitually portray a positive and professional character when I'm outside of my home. In addition, I am a highly organised person that maintains many to do lists and attempts to plan out every detail of events and activities well before needed. The included personal recommendation letter further describes who I am as a person.

I highly value my family, love, loyalty and honesty more than any friendship or career I could ever have. The reason for this is that as a child I witnessed my mum's struggles and she at times found it very difficult to provide a financially and emotionally stable environment for me. My mum believed that if we distanced ourselves from our extended family, then I could be involved in more opportunities that would help me to pursue any career or life I wanted. I now have two university degrees and can pursue many career options that will provide me financial stability that my mum always imagined for me. I could not have achieved what I have without the ongoing support of my mum and fiance, which is why I value their love and loyalty. I hope that my psychology degree will help me to become a support worker in the welfare of children and families and potentially a Psychologist further down the track, so that I can have an enjoyable, successful and stable career. I also hope to raise a family of my own along the way, as I feel that I have an abundance of love to give and not enough family in my life to share it with.
